winter self care ideas

the sun rises around 7:04AM and sets around 4:11PM here in New England, which means winter is almost here. during this time of year, daylight is short and it can make it easy for us to feel sad. i try to make the best out of winter by doing things i love and staying busy.

start your morning with your mind in a good place – books, podcasts, music are a way to get some energy and lighten up your mood.

plan your day – because it gets dark so early, it always seems like there isn’t enough time in a day to get things done. planning your day will keep you productive and you’re more likely to accomplish what you plan to do. either plan the night before or early morning.

cleaning is a priority because it’s likely you’re spending more time inside – plan small and clean room by room.

add touches of light throughout your home – just enough to make your home feel illuminated for winter.

make small changes to your home so it can feel cozy, beautiful and filled with things you love.

try new recipes – specifically warm comfort foods like soup.

warm drinks – coffee, tea, hot chocolate. the ritual of making any of these drinks is like a meditation.

try to get outside – going out for walks when it’s cold is actually good for us.

board games at night before bed- it’s a good way to stay playful and laugh.
