“he that does good to another does good also to himself”
a big part of my family’s Christmas tradition each year always includes a different type of giving and it’s so special to me. one of my favorite ways to give back is through Adopt-a-Family. you’re put in touch with a family and you give them a little extra help by spoiling them with what’s on their Christmas list. most moms and dads spend all of their money on their kids and prioritize them and don’t have much money left for themselves. it’s nice to treat them too! here are some little ideas to help others however you are able to this season.
for the community:
1. donate gently used items. try to think of those who may be able to use items that you no longer need. so, if you’re cleaning out, remember to think of those around you, too.
2. if you have children, have them go through their toys that they don’t play with to give them to kids who might not have them.
3. drop off gift cards/ treats to e.g., veterinarian or firefighters who might have helped you in a sticky situation ;’)
4. take a trip to Savers, buy a couple of discounted gloves, hats, and coats or blankets and take them to the homeless.
5. donate extra blankets, dog/cat food or toys to your local animal shelter. you could also volunteer your time.
6. what cause is close to your heart? make a small donation. research beforehand to ensure reputation.
7. give an extra generous tip to your eyebrow/nail lady or hairdresser.
8. park or beach clean up.
for family and friends:
9. gift a book that has been helpful in your life.
10. go over to new parents home and help out with chores.
11. send a voice note to a friend.
12. surprise Venmo a friend $5 for coffee.
13. record a video message for a friend/family member that’s far away.
14. offer to babysit for parents, so they can have a date night.
15. leave a sweet note on a family member’s pillow.
16. give a friend flowers.
what’s a better feeling than knowing someone is thinking of you by making a nice gesture 🥰 this is the season of giving indeed 🎄🎁❤️
I love this entire post so much!! I am definitely using some of these ideas to round out the Christmas season on the happiest note possible 🙂
